Eva Murray Square Dance Caller

Eva Murray discovered her passion for calling in March of 1998, launching her journey with contras and traditional square dances set to lively, live music. Known for her clear teaching style and welcoming personality, Eva quickly built a reputation for creating fun, inclusive dance experiences for beginners and seasoned dancers alike.

In 2011, Eva shifted her focus to Modern Western Square Dancing, bringing the same warmth, energy, and musical sensibility to club nights, party dances, and workshops. Whether calling a beginner’s introduction or a Dance by Definition workshop, Eva loves helping dancers of all levels connect, learn, and laugh on the dance floor.

Vance McDaniel, Square Dance Caller

Vance McDaniel began calling square dances at just 13 years old, launching his first class at a U.S. Army youth center in Mannheim, Germany. After returning to North Carolina in 1972, he became a sought-after club caller for groups including the Carthage Sandspurs, Yellow Rockers, Harnett Twirlers, and Checkerboard Squares—calling for up to six clubs weekly throughout the ’70s and ’80s while traveling extensively.

Today, Vance continues to call for the Cary Cross Trailers, guests for regional clubs, and plays a key role organizing dances and special events. A dedicated member of CALLERLAB, he was honored with their prestigious Half Century Award in 2016 and currently serves as President of the North Carolina Callers Association.

Dan Clairmont began square dancing in 1987 with his wife, Gail, and soon became active in the Ramblin’ Rogues Square Dance Club in Mission Viejo, California. He started calling in 2009 and has since called at 12 National Square Dance Conventions, with his 13th appearance scheduled for June 2025 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dan calls from SSD through A2 and has taught hundreds of party nights, private events, and 25 beginner classes throughout California, Texas, and beyond. One of his most rewarding experiences was founding Hand-n-Hand, a square dance club for adults with special needs.

Now a full-time, national and international traveling caller, Dan loves sharing the fun, energy, and friendship of square dancing wherever he goes.

Barbara Bibb

Barbara Bibb Round Dance Cuer

Barbara’s passion for dance began after high school with international folk dancing and expanded to square, Scottish country, and English country dance. She now focuses on Western square and round dancing, vibrant social dance forms.

After retiring, Barbara embraced a new challenge by learning to cue. She quickly became an active and valued member of the round dance community and is a proud member of both Roundalab (the International Association of Round Dance Leaders) and the North Carolina Round Dance Association.

For many years, Barbara has cued for Square Heels and now also cues for Capital Squares. When she’s not calling a dance floor, you’ll find her sharing her passion for round dancing as an instructor every Tuesday and Thursday at the Seymour Center on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill.

Marty Northrup

Marty Northrup Square dance caller

Marty Northrup discovered square dancing in September 1975 in upstate New York and was hooked from the start. Just a year later, he picked up the microphone and began learning to call, setting the stage for a lifelong passion.

In 1999, Marty and his family made the move to Western North Carolina, where he quickly became a familiar and welcome voice in the regional square dance scene. He now calls for clubs across North and South Carolina as well as Georgia, bringing his energetic style and love of the activity wherever he goes.

Marty is a favorite guest at the Capital Squares, calling several times a year and always delivering a fun, lively evening on the dance floor.

David Staples

David’s square dance journey began in 1989 with the Square Heels club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Inspired by the lively community and the joy of the activity, he picked up the microphone in 1992 and began his calling career. In 1997, David founded his own club, Boots & Bows, which enjoyed a successful run until 2020.

A dedicated professional, David is a proud member of CALLERLAB and earned his 25-Year Calling Award in 2017. He also maintains BMI and ASCAP licenses, ensuring dancers always enjoy a wide variety of great music at his dances.

Over the years, David has called for clubs across North Carolina and Virginia, from Basic through the Advanced program. These days, he primarily calls through the Plus level to share his  love of the activity.

Bo Bierley

Bo Bierley square dance caller

Bo Bierley has been calling square dances for over 30 years and is a familiar, friendly voice on the microphone at clubs throughout Central North Carolina. He currently serves on the staff of several local clubs, bringing energy, fun, and great music to every dance.

Bo believes square dancing is one of the best ways to stay active, both physically and mentally, while connecting with a welcoming community. His philosophy is simple: if you can walk, you can square dance! Whether you’re looking for a lively social activity, good exercise, or just a great time on the dance floor, Bo’s calling will have you smiling and dancing in no time.
